More than 35 schools have building upgrades underway across South Australia, as the Marshall Liberal Government’s record $1.3 billion school construction spend takes off.

Education projects now under construction are worth more than $740 million. This includes three new school builds and 33 major upgrades of schools across the state.

More than $1.1 billion of the total program’s investment is expected to be spent before the end of the 2021-22 financial year, providing an enormous boost to the state’s economy at a vital time.

Premier Steven Marshall visited Salisbury High School today to view progress on the school’s $10 million upgrade, which includes new classrooms, specialist learning areas and a refurbished administration building.

“The Government’s $1.3 billion education infrastructure build is delivering thousands of construction jobs for South Australians at a crucial time for our economy,” Premier Marshall said.

“With so many of these projects now underway, spanning from Ceduna to Mount Gambier, this massive building program is playing a key role in supporting jobs across the state as we recover from the economic impacts of the pandemic.” he said.

“Overall, more than 100 school upgrades will be delivered in the coming years as part of our record-breaking investment in education, providing a solid pipeline of jobs and delivering a generational upgrade of schools across the state. ” Premier Marshall said.

Education Minister John Gardner said progress on the state’s education build was progressing well.

“Shovels are in the ground on major school upgrades right across South Australia, providing a construction jobs boom at a time when these jobs are so sorely needed,” Minister Gardner said.

“This massive building program is meeting a range of critical needs for our education system, including lifting capacity for schools where there is growing demand, improving facilities and ensuring that Year 7 transitions into high school.” he said.

“Families across the state will undoubtedly be excited to see these school upgrades come to life as we deliver the biggest upgrade of our education system ever seen in South Australia.” Minister Gardner said.
