The ACSC has developed information to help the community buy and use internet-connected devices securely – such as smart fridges, smart televisions, baby monitors and security cameras.

The Australian Government has released a voluntary Code of Practice to improve the security of the Internet of Things (IoT) in Australia – including everyday devices such as smart fridges, smart televisions, baby monitors and security cameras.

To help the community buy and use these devices securely, the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has developed some simple advice to follow when purchasing, setting up, using and securely disposing of a device.

Following the steps will better protect your device, and help keep your network and personal information secure.

The Code of Practice includes a range of voluntary principles to inform industry about the cyber security features expected of internet-connected devices available in Australia.

To help manufacturers of IoT devices implement these principles, the ACSC has developed some guidance on the IoT Code of Practice.
