Since technology is now widely used across sectors, having a digital strategy can be relevant in improving and keeping the organisation in pace with other similar businesses in the industry.

Business Queensland has listed out key components of a digital strategy that organisations should have in order to keep up with the competition.

  1. Establish an online presence

As many people use social media to send and receive information in a timely manner, it is important for an organisation to establish its online presence. Not only will this allow stakeholders to see and know the organisation online, but it will also help establish its identity in the digital space.

In order to have an online presence, Business Queensland lists out that organisations should have the following:

  • your business website, mobile website or a campaign mini-site;
  • social media profiles;
  • corporate advertising profiles; and
  • links, information, reviews or articles appearing on other businesses’ websites.
  1. Do digital marketing

With everything going digital, organisations must utilise new marketing strategies in order to stay on top.

Digital marketing is the promotion of one’s organisation through the use of online resources and tools. The tools used in digital marketing include websites, micro-sites, mobile apps and social media platforms.

Aside from this, it is also good to include online banner ads, search engine marketing, social media ads, articles, newsletters, email marketing, mobile banner ads and ebooks to one’s digital marketing tactics.

  1. Interact and engage with stakeholders online

Companies should now innovate when it comes to stakeholder interaction. Since accessibility has become one of the strengths that can improve a company’s image, there should be a minimal effort on the person to find the information, service or product they are looking for.

To help support stakeholder engagement,  Business Queensland recommends a customer relationship management (CRM) system that will:

  • capture and collate information on clients
  • track contacts, callbacks and deals
  • track the performance of your traditional and digital marketing strategies
  • link your customer information with your accounting software.
  1. Strengthen online security

Cybersecurity is a necessary component for a good digital strategy, as it protects the organisation’s virtual assets such as the data and information stored on computers and file servers from malicious cyber actors. This can help prevent the loss of valuable and irreplaceable assets.

An organisation should establish staff policies for accessing and storing company data, using digital technologies, and dealing with customer information. Aside from this, they should also use secure, cloud-based software, payment and backup systems to prevent any loss.

  1. Use technology for efficiency

Business Queensland states that using the right digital technology for the right purpose is one of the best ways to decrease business overhead by providing staff with the capability to work more efficiently and effectively.

This technology can either be hardware such as computers and smartphones or software such as email marketing, CRM systems and business management software. Using such technologies can allow employees to process data faster, retrieve information more easily and downsize through the complete automation of suitable tasks.

While these components can greatly help in keeping up with others in the industry, it is also necessary to adapt and improve the digital strategy to tailor fit it to the organisation’s goals. As digital technology continues to become more pervasive in society, a digital strategy is needed for an easy digital transformation.
