Nexif Energy is on track to deliver an additional 240 MW of generation capacity into South Australia’s electricity market.
Minister for Energy and Mining Dan van Holst Pellekaan announced that the energy company will relocate 154 MW of fast-start generators to Snapper Point at Outer Harbour. Nexif Energy will also start the construction of 86 MW of wind turbines at Lincoln Gap.
“The Marshall Government has turned the tide on Labor’s legacy of sky-high electricity prices and has stabilised the grid whilst lowering the cost of electricity and emissions,” Minister van Holst Pellekaan said.
“South Australians now has cheaper wholesale electricity than both Victoria or New South Wales for the first time in seven years.”
The two projects led by Nexif Energy will support over 180 jobs across the state. It will also deliver significant savings to South Australian taxpayers.
Minister van Holst Pellekaan said these projects will greatly help after the previous state government spent $600 million in acquiring the generators and leaving them idle.
“The 86 MW of wind power that Stage 2 of Lincoln Gap will deliver when completed by late next year combined with Nexif’s grid-scale battery adds further depth to our impressive array of renewable energy assets,” Minister van Holst Pellekaan said.
“These are in addition to Lincoln Gap existing 126MW of wind generation.”
Nexif Energy said the delivery of Project EnergyConnect between South Australia and New South Wales will make it easier to consider a 252MW expansion of Lincoln Gap’s third stage in the coming months.
Matching the capacity of the gas turbines at Snapper Point with the wind farm and battery at Lincoln Gap is considered to be an important step in the transformation to a low-cost, low emission electricity system in South Australia.
The announcement of the additional generation capacity follows the AGL’s plan for another big battery at Torrens Island, delivering great results for the state’s households and businesses while providing jobs and investment for economic recovery.
