The Northern Territory Government is picking up the pace in their vaccine rollout with 3100 new vaccination appointments coming online for the Greater Darwin area today.
“The Territory Labor Government has been leading the nation and now we have an opportunity to further accelerate the vaccine rollout,” Health Minister Natasha Fyles said.
“We are working closely with the Commonwealth Government which is delivering 10,000 additional doses to the Northern Territory per week.”
Based on advice from the Public Health Advisory Group, the following groups will be given priority for the Greater Darwin vaccination appointments:
- Indigenous Australians
- People aged 30-59 years
- Transport workers
- Pregnant women
- People with a medical condition
- Health, quarantine, aged care, disability, high-risk industry and border workers
- People with an exemption to travel overseas
The Northern Territory was the first state to open the vaccine up to its entire eligible population and make the vaccine available to people over the age of 16. About 46.6% of the state’s eligible population have already been given 88,841 first doses of the vaccine.
Currently, more than 50,000 second doses have now administered throughout the entire state. This accounts for 26.64% of the Northern Territory’s eligible population, compared to 16.7% of the entire country.
Positive vaccination rates are being recorded across the Top End, Central Australia and remote communities as more than 37% of remote Territorians have received their first vaccine dose. Meanwhile, 24% of Territorians within these remote regions have received their second dose.
Vaccine appointments in Katherine are also increasing, with 1500 bookings now online. Those that reside at the Top End will soon have more flexibility to book their appointments as the Darwin COVID-19 Vaccination Centre will be scheduled to operate seven days a week starting from 9 August 2021.
Vaccine appointments in the region can be booked at Danila Dilba Health Service, the Palmerston GP Super Clinic and at participating GPs and pharmacists.
