OCR Labs has become the first entirely private Australian-based identity provider to offer digital identity services for multiple sectors under the Australian Government’s Digital Identity Program.
The announcement came today from Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business Stuart Robert after OCR Labs was accredited through the Trusted Digital Identity Framework (TDIF).
Thanks to the accreditation, customers who are using OCR Labs’ identity services in sectors such as banking, finance and telecommunications can trust that their identity information can be verified and protected.
Also, since they have been accredited through the TDIF, OCR Labs is required to undergo annual assessments in order to continually demonstrate that they meet TDIF obligations.
OCR Labs provides fully automated remote identity verification and fraud detection services. These services will save consumers’ time since they would no longer need to visit branches or produce multiple forms of ID to complete an interaction with their bank.
Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business Stuart Robert said that privacy and security measures are critical to the Australian Government’s Digital Identity System.
‘We want Australians to have confidence that their information is private and secure, regardless of who holds it. It has become increasingly important in this digital age to be able to establish trust, particularly online,’ Minister Robert said.
‘Digital Identity underpins the Government’s Digital Economy Strategy that will allow Australian businesses like OCR Labs, and in particular small businesses, to capitalise on the opportunities that digital technologies are creating, enabling them to grow and create jobs as part of Australia’s economic recovery.’
The Digital Identity Program is being delivered throughout the nation as part of the Australian Government’s $800 million Digital Business Plan. All programs under the Digital Business Plan are led by the Digital Transformation Agency.
Under the Trusted Digital Identity Framework, organisations are mandated to meet the Australian Government’s requirements for strict privacy protections, security and fraud control, risk management and technical integrity in order to ensure a nationally consistent approach to accrediting, governing, and operating digital identities in Australia.
