Government opens $10 million funding round for farm connectivity technology

AU farmers can apply for up to $20K through the On Farm Connectivity Program to adopt ag-tech that improves connectivity.

Australian farmers can apply for up to $20,000 through the On Farm Connectivity Program to adopt ag-tech that improves connectivity, productivity and safety.

On Farm Connectivity grants help primary producers adopt smarter and better-connected farming solutions – such as technology and equipment to optimise soil quality and nutrient levels, monitor livestock, automate watering systems and safeguard farming equipment and supplies.

Round three applications are now open and will be prioritised for primary producers who did not receive funding through previous rounds, helping spread the benefits of the program as broadly as possible.

“Smart and connected technologies can deliver real advantages for primary producers, boosting productivity and enabling new, more efficient ways of doing things,” said Minister for Communications, Anika Wells.

“The Albanese Government is making it easier for farmers and producers to innovate with $10 million for rebates up to $20,000 available through the On Farm Connectivity Program.

“This is another way the Government is backing our farmers and primary producers who feed our nation and fuel our economy, supporting the regional communities and businesses that keep this country going.”

The program provides rebates of up to 50 per cent for eligible equipment through eligible suppliers, with a pool of $10 million in round three.

Rounds one and two of the program delivered more than $30.5 million in rebates to almost 3,000 primary producers nationwide.

The third round covers five categories of eligible equipment: low-power wide-area networks, connectivity equipment, environmental monitoring, farm management, and remote automation and control equipment. The program can also cover certain costs associated with approved equipment, including delivery and installation, training, and one-off subscriptions of up to 12 months, subject to program limits.

Eligible primary producers must have an ABN registered for at least 12 months and carry out activities covered by the program’s eligible industry classifications. They must also have an average annual gross income between $40,000 and $4 million across the 2022–23, 2023–24 and 2024–25 financial years, and cannot be hobby farmers.

Applications are submitted by Approved Suppliers, who must supply the eligible equipment to the primary producer. Suppliers must be able to deliver, install and provide training for the equipment, where applicable, within 120 calendar days of receiving approval.

Round three applications close on 15 October 2026 at 5pm AEDT.
