The Australian Taxation Office announced an update to the eInvoicing Ready product register. It now features 45 certified software solutions designed for secure invoicing through the Peppol network in Australia and New Zealand. The register helps you identify and choose a certified e-invoicing-ready product that links your business to the secure Peppol network.
In July 2025, the Commonwealth will require all non-corporate Commonwealth entities to adopt e-invoicing and expand upon the 2022 mandate to receive e-invoices. This initiative tackles the growing adoption as the number of registered businesses soars from 16,000 in July 2022 to over 400,000 by 2025. It aims to strengthen data governance, enhance digital government and ensure secure and efficient invoice exchanges.
The registry enhances data governance, strengthens cybersecurity, and safeguards privacy by standardising data sharing, reducing data silos, and boosting operational efficiency throughout the public sector. Products must showcase the ability to send or receive valid invoices through an accredited Australian Peppol service provider and facilitate business registration on the network.
Certified e-Invoicing Ready+ products enhance functionality by incorporating additional best practice data fields. These include invoice payment due date, supplier GST identifier, supplier contact details, payee financial account, payment remittance information, additional descriptions, reference numbers for buyer, contract, project, tender and purchase orders, and attachments.

The Commonwealth Government announced an extension of the 2022 requirement that all non-corporate Commonwealth entities adopt e-invoices. The 2024–25 Federal Budget establishes e-invoicing as the standard invoicing approach for most government entities and sets clear deadlines for adoption and automation. The mandatory implementation of the Pan-European Public Procurement On-Line (Peppol) International Invoice (PINT) A-NZ format starts on 15 November 2024.
Dedicated support begins on 15 May 2025 to improve data infrastructure and ensure seamless interoperability across various jurisdictions. Peppol’s innovative connect-once transact-with-all approach effectively minimises data silos and fosters enhanced collaboration and sharing of information among agencies. This solution streamlines data collection, enhances cloud storage capabilities, and bolsters cybersecurity by removing reliance on email or PDF invoices.
The ATO states, “By leading the implementation of eInvoicing, the government aims to improve cash flow, disrupt payment redirection scams and boost productivity across the economy.”
The benefits of e-Invoicing
- Faster payments: Government agencies can now process invoices in days instead of weeks, significantly enhancing supplier cash flow. Small businesses providing office equipment to federal departments can expect payment within just 5 business days, a notable improvement over the conventional 30-day timeframe.
- Reduced processing errors: standardised Peppol data fields eliminate manual entry mistakes and ensure that amounts, GST identifiers and contract references align with procurement records. This approach prevents costly disputes and rework.
- Lower operational costs: Agencies and suppliers can save thousands each year by eliminating printing, postage, and manual handling. A council that manages 5,000 invoices annually can significantly reduce labour costs by transitioning from paper workflows to automated systems.
- Improved cybersecurity: The Peppol network facilitates secure and encrypted communication that significantly reduces the risk of invoice fraud and phishing attacks. This allows agencies to avoid prevalent scams that involve altering bank details sent through email.
- Greater data governance and compliance: Certified products ensure that all invoice data is captured, stored securely, and shared appropriately in compliance with established privacy and security standards. This process facilitates transparent audit trails in public procurement.
- Breaking data silos: Peppol’s connect-once model enables the instant exchange of procurement data across various departments and jurisdictions. It promotes collaboration among agencies for shared services and comprehensive government initiatives.
- Enhanced analytics and AI readiness: Organisational invoice information enhances artificial intelligence applications that predict spending patterns, detect duplicate transactions, and guide budget development.
Public sector leaders can use the register to identify solutions that align with their operational requirements. Xaana Pty Ltd’s Enigma 2.0 harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to streamline process automation in large enterprises. MYOB Business offers affordable accounting and e-invoicing solutions suitable for businesses of all sizes. Link4 Invoice Express and Colladium offer online web portals and products that provide low- or no-cost options, ensuring accessibility for smaller suppliers.
The ATO highlights that “for these and other benefits to be realised, all governments across the country should be looking to use eInvoicing and be encouraging the businesses they interact with to use it too.”
The ATO enhanced its eInvoicing Ready register. This allows government agencies to select certified software that facilitates secure, standard invoice exchange via Peppol while reinforcing data governance and advancing digital Agencies will achieve specific adoption targets, aiming for 30 percent e-invoicing by July 2026 and complete automation by December 2026.
Businesses adopting this initiative surged from about 16,000 in 2022 to over 400,000 by 2025. Nearly 130 federal entities and more than 300 state, territorial, and local organisations participate. This advancement paves the way for enhanced procurement processes, strengthened cybersecurity measures, improved data collection, and a future where artificial intelligence and cloud storage facilitate more intelligent government operations.
