The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) is the Australian Government agency responsible for supporting and investing in sport and comprises of Sport Australia and the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).

Sport Australia invests in national sporting organisations, including organisations for people with a disability, to champion the value of sport and encourage Australians of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities to get involved in sport. In addition to providing funding, Sport Australia is focused on improving the capability of sporting organisations to create an effective and sustainable national sports sector.

 

The key duties of the position include:

As part of the Sports Division’s Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Media & Communications is responsible for leading Sport Australia’s Media & Communications team. The position provides high-level strategic leadership, advice and direction to the organisation, division and team to achieve business outcomes.

 

Key job responsibilities include:

  • Develop an annual plan which aligns with the narrative and key messages, stakeholders, and channels to deliver the most impact for Sport Australia (helping Australians understand the value and benefits of organised sport)
  • Regularly update and engage with the Executive on key media matters
  • Manage media inquiries and relationships with the media
  • Engage with National Sporting Organisations and stakeholders on media and communication opportunities relating to participation in sport
  • Liaise with the Minister’s Office on matters of media interest and advise and direct as required
  • Lead the management of key events such as the Sport Australia Media Awards
  • Oversee the budget for media activity to maximise impact against goals and drive efficiency.

 

We are seeking a highly qualified candidate with demonstrated experience working in high-tempo environments, who excels at leading a team and key liaison with the Executive.

Please note the ASC operates under The Australian Sports Commission Act 1989 and is separate from the Australian Public Service terms and conditions of employment. If you have any questions regarding movements from the APS to the ASC please call People & Culture.
