National Network Coordination is responsible for the strategic and operational implementation of the National Archives’ physical presence and statutory functions across a network of state and territory offices in Australia. This includes collection management, archival services, access, public engagement, digitisation and relevant state and territory stakeholder management responsibilities.

The Senior Archival Officer is responsible for supervising a small team delivering reference, access, lending, digitisation, description, transfers and storage services. In this role, you will monitor work progress to meet service standards and ensure team members follow current policies and practices. You will provide advice, support and assistance to staff and external stakeholders, undertake and manage projects and contribute to the development of relevant guidelines and procedures. You will also assist with complex reference and access cases, and promote the National Archives’ presence in Western Australia.

 

The key duties of the position include:

Under limited direction, the main duties of the role are to:

  • Supervise a team engaged in the effective and efficient delivery of reference and access services, lending, digitisation, description and storage services, including setting priorities and monitoring work progress to meet service standards.
  • Assist with complex reference cases and access appeals, ensure service standards are met and team members follow current policies and practices.
  • Maintain accurate statistics and assist with regular reporting to the team and management as required.
  • Carry out research for, and deliver exhibitions, seminars and education sessions to the Australian community to promote the National Archives in Western Australia and encourage the use of the archival collection.
  • Represent the Archives and liaise with government agencies, community groups, peer organisations and stakeholder representatives.
  • Contribute to and participate in the National Archives’ change agenda by identifying issues and recommending solutions.
  • Apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity principles, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.
  • Promote and apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in The Archives Way.

 

Eligibility

Applicants must be Australian citizens and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance to Negative Vetting Level 1.
