Role Scope

You will provide professional prosecution services, including the provision of legal advice to members of the Service on matters before the Magistrates, Children’s and Coroner’s Courts.

Special Conditions Applications will remain current for 12 months

Mandatory Requirements Admission as, eligibility for immediate admission as, or entitlement to practise as, a legal practitioner in the State of Queensland.

 

Key Accountabilities

Your Key Accountabilities will include:

  • Provide a prosecution service for the area of responsibility.
  • Monitor the provision of briefs of evidence by police for use in summary trials and for committal proceedings to ensure the highest quality of briefs is maintained.
  • Liaise, consult and negotiate with members of the Queensland Police Service, the legal profession, government agencies and the community towards the establishment of effective working relationships and achievement of desired policing outcomes.
  • Take a lead role in the development and provision of quality legal research, argument, submissions, opinion and advice.
  • Manage resources in accordance with Service policy to achieve efficient operations for the area of responsibility.
  • Establish and model maintain high standards of performance and conduct in daily work activities.
  • May include coordination activities for Specialist Courts and diversionary initiatives a directed by the Superintendent.

 

Organisation Environment/Structure

The occupant of this position will report directly to the Officer in Charge of the Police Prosecutions Corps, (location).

Appointment to this position will be made pursuant to the provisions of the Public Service Act 2008. Terms and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Queensland Public Service Officers & Other Employees Award – State and the current State Government Entities Certified Agreement.
