The Albanese government has completed two new digital infrastructure projects on Tasmania’s west coast, improving broadband connectivity for the communities of Zeehan and Tullah.
Funded through the Regional Connectivity Program, the projects connect both communities to Tasmania’s existing fibre network, providing residents, businesses, and visitors with access to more reliable, higher-capacity digital services.
The projects were jointly funded by the Australian government, Hydro Tasmania, and 42-24 in partnership with TasNetworks.
New infrastructure improves access to essential services
Improved connectivity is expected to strengthen access to healthcare, education, government services, and emergency communications while supporting local businesses and economic development.
Minister for Communications Anika Wells said reliable telecommunications infrastructure is essential for regional communities.
“Reliable and resilient communications networks mean people can stay connected, access health, education, and government services, work, and stay safe in emergencies.”
She said investments through the Regional Connectivity Program are helping ensure regional Australians have better access to essential digital services.
Program supports regional and remote communities nationwide
The Regional Connectivity Program funds telecommunications infrastructure projects across regional, rural, and remote Australia through partnerships with state, territory, and local governments, telecommunications providers, and industry partners.

To date, the Australian government has committed more than $360 million across almost 300 communications infrastructure projects over three funding rounds.
The program forms part of the Albanese government’s Better Connectivity Plan for Regional and Rural Australia, which aims to improve digital inclusion, strengthen regional productivity, and increase equitable access to essential services.
Investment strengthens regional resilience
Federal Member for Braddon Anne Urquhart said reliable communications play an important role in supporting regional communities.
“Small communities like Zeehan and Tullah know how important it is to have access to reliable communications.”
She said improved connectivity will help communities access essential services, support local businesses, and stay connected with family and friends.
