THE ROLE

Air Traffic Controllers are responsible for managing the safe and orderly flow of aircraft. This is a highly stimulating role that requires a level of commitment and responsibility.

Air Traffic Controllers are based all around the country, operating out of one of our two major centres in Melbourne or Brisbane and also from 28 control towers at international and regional airports across Australia.

As a Trainee Air Traffic Controller, you will receive comprehensive training from our Registered Training Organisation based in Melbourne. Training is delivered via a combination of classroom based and practical training. Upon successful completion of training, a nationally recognised qualification will be awarded in the form of a Diploma of Aviation (Air Traffic Control).

 

 

ABOUT YOU

 

We are seeking women and men who come from a diverse range of backgrounds to become Air Traffic Controllers. You do not require aviation experience to become an Air Traffic Controller.

Airservices is seeking applicants with resilience, situational awareness, problem solving, multitasking and forward-thinking.  Additionally, applicants need to be reliable, vigilant and have the ability to adapt and overcome challenges.

To be become an Air Traffic Controller, you must be meet the requirements as specified below:

  • 18 years of age or above
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or hold Permanent Residency

 

Meet one of the minimum education requirements within the last ten years (supporting documentation must be provided with your application):

 

  • Year 12 Certificate; or
  • Completed Nationally recognised Diploma; or
  • Completed Degree; or
  • Current Australian or New Zealand Commercial Pilot License or Private Pilot License
    (International qualifications will need to be assessed by an appropriate authority as equivalent, refer to the FAQs for additional information relating to the assessment).
