Safety Officer Government & Defence

Salary-$64,625 - $68,599 Australia > Melbourne

To be successful in this role, the applicant will require the following knowledge, skills, experience and attitudes:

 

  • Certificate III / IV Security and Risk Management or Current Security Guard license (Unarmed Guard, Control Room Operator), level qualification or alternatively knowledge and skills gained through on-the job training commensurate with the requirements of the role, preferably with Level 2 First Aid and/or Chief Fire Warden certificates. Relevant knowledge and skills should include:
    • providing public safety and security services, including diffusing difficult situations,
    • interpreting regulations, Local Laws, policies and procedures,
    • managing time, setting priorities, planning and organising work, both on an individual and team basis,
    • undertaking investigations, interviewing witnesses, victims of crime and suspects, as well as preparing enforcement documentation such as infringement notices and/or briefs of evidence.
  • Must be available to work regular weekend / evening shifts and reasonable overtime.
  • A satisfactory Functional Capacity test, current Victorian driver’s license, and satisfactory (and ongoing) Police and Working with Children Checks supplied prior to offer of employment and commencement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and gain the full cooperation and assistance of other team members, Council management and staff;
  • Ability to gain cooperation from others and diffuse difficult inter-personal confrontations in a tactful and professional manner;
  • Well-developed oral & written communication skills including the ability to prepare clear and concise written documentation;
  • Competency in using up to date technology to complete safety and security tasks or responsibilities, including software programs, CCTV systems and mobile devices.

You may be required to undertake practical testing, work preference profiling / psychometric testing, functional capacity assessment (physical) or aptitude testing.

 

The successful candidate will be asked to produce a clear Working with Children Check and will be asked to consent to a national police check (and where relevant an ‘international criminal history check’), subject to the operation of spent conviction laws.
