Dr Cross is currently Associate Dean (Learning & Teaching), Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice, Queensland University of Technology. She also holds a position as Associate Professor, School of Justice, QUT. She recently completed a Senior Research Fellowship with the Cybersecurity Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) on the topic of romance fraud. Dr Cross joined QUT in 2012, from the Queensland Police Service, where she worked in research and policy roles. Since 2008, Cassandra has focused her research on various aspects of online fraud, including the policing of online fraud, the prevention of online fraud, and the need to support victims who experience online fraud. In 2011, she was awarded the Donald Mackay Churchill Fellowship, which enabled her to travel to the UK, USA and Canada to examine how these jurisdictions respond to online fraud. Since joining QUT in late 2012, she has continued to develop her expertise in this area through further research. She has been awarded over AUD$1.3 million in research funding to explore all aspects of fraud, including the policing, prevention and support of victims. While several of her projects have directly engaged the narratives of fraud victims, she has also collaborated heavily with industry partners across law enforcement, banks, government, and non-government agencies. Dr Cross has presented her research at a variety of academic, law enforcement and government events across Australia, UK, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, USA, Canada, Hong Kong, Argentina and New Zealand. She is the co author (with Professor Mark Button) of the book entitled "Cyber Frauds, Scams and their Victims" published by Routledge in 2017.
