The Auditor-General’s Department is the independent auditor of the South Australian (SA) public sector, reporting directly to the SA Parliament on the audits of the finances, systems and processes of both state and local government agencies. 

The types of clients range from smaller agencies such as the Coast Protection Board to large entities like the Department of Treasury and Finance and SA Water.

About the role

The Audit Analyst (ASO2) is our graduate/entry level role. The successful candidate/s will need to have understanding and awareness (gained through your tertiary studies in accounting) of:

  • accounting methods and procedures
  • social and economic environment and the responsibility placed on the department for public accountability
  • accounting and auditing standards and practices
  • audit strategy and scope.

The Auditor Grade I (ASO3) is our next level position, the successful candidate/s will need to have:

  • experience in applying accounting and auditing standards and practices
  • working knowledge of audit strategy and scope
  • awareness of the social and economic environment and the responsibility placed on the department for public accountability
  • ability to contribute to the training of an Audit Analyst ASO2
  • ability to interpret legislation.

Both roles are responsible for assisting with financial compliance and internal controls audits, and conducting reviews on issues of importance and interest in the public sector.

However, with their experience, the Auditor Grade I (ASO3) will undertake more complex financial compliance and internal controls, and exercise a greater degree of autonomy, initiative and judgement when contributing to the audit of public sector financial statements.

 

Eligibility requirements

Completed a degree in accounting or commerce (majoring in accounting) or an appropriate degree recognised by the Auditor-General (Audit Analyst (ASO2) level candidates may still be considered if there is a small study gap to meet the degree qualification at time of commencing in the role)

The completed degree must meet the requirements for entry into the professional accounting program offered by CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (through their accredited tertiary degree entry pathways)

Be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident at the time of applying

 

Special conditions

The role may be offered at either the Audit Analyst (ASO2) or Auditor Grade I (ASO3) level, depending upon the successful candidate’s relevant experience and capabilities

Shortlisted candidate/s will be required to complete a pre-employment declaration form and provide evidence of Australian citizenship or Australian permanent residency

Recommended candidate/s will be required to undergo a national criminal history check and asked to voluntarily disclose their COVID-19 vaccination status
