For this year’s Featured Leaders, Public Spectrum interviewed professionals whose expertise ranged from largely data management to cyber security to share their experience and showcase their efforts on numerous developments and issues that have occurred in the public sector. 

Data Management

Emily Martin, Assistant Secretary of the Consumer Data and Digital Division at Treasury, emphasises the role of Australia’s Consumer Data Right (CDR) in enhancing data security, streamlining online processes, and fostering innovative solutions, with upcoming discussions at the Aus Government Data Summit 2023.

Megan Motto, CEO of the Governance Institute of Australia, highlights the significance of good governance in the public sector, discussing prevalent issues and government responses and emphasising the need for transparency, independence, and adherence to proper governance frameworks.

Jason Dixon, Government Practice at Boomi ANZ, addresses the challenges in government data coordination amid rising data breaches, emphasising the need for a clear understanding of data and the lack of a common framework.

Chris Hutchins, CEO of Profectus Group, underscores the growing significance of technology in enhancing efficiency and compliance in Australian companies, emphasising its role in simplifying contract administration, improving vendor screening, and driving profitability, highlighting the imperative for businesses to adopt technology as a necessity rather than an option for success in the competitive market.

Elizabeth Tydd, CEO of Information and Privacy Commission NSW, underscores the crucial role of open data in Australia’s digital economy, emphasising its significance for businesses in driving progress, fostering innovation, and providing insights into the ethical landscape of open data sharing.

Anne Cornish, CEO of RIMPA sheds light on the critical nature of APS’s recordkeeping crisis and the reasons behind the controversies surrounding Labour legislation and concerns about government contracts. The Australian Public Service (APS) faces a recordkeeping crisis, emphasising the imperative for an agile and ethical approach to address public concerns, preserve transparency, and maintain operational integrity.

 

 

Alicja Mosbauer, The Chief Data Officer of IP Australia emphasises the increasing importance of evaluating, comprehending, and utilising data for informed decision-making and strategic planning, especially within the Australian Public Service (APS).

Cyber Security

Matthew Fedele-Sirotich, Chief Technology Officer of CSO Group and former CISO at the NSW Government, emphasises the need for organisations to bolster their cyber resilience through multi-layered controls, open communication on risk management, and strategic consolidation of cyber teams, technologies, and processes, while recognising the ongoing challenges in a dynamic cyber security landscape and underscoring the importance of tailored metrics to measure the effectiveness of cyber programmes.
