International vaccination proof now available to Aussies

Starting this Tuesday, Australians will now be able to apply for international proof of COVID-19 vaccination in order to safely travel overseas.
In a joint statement made by government ministers on Sunday night, the international vaccination proof will be made available to Australian passport holders and Australian visa holders who have their COVID-19 vaccinations recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register.
“The international proof of vaccination features a secure QR code to prove COVID-19 vaccination status to border authorities around the world and increases a person’s ability to travel safely and with confidence,” the federal government said.
By having the international vaccination proof, fully vaccinated Australians will be allowed to depart the country and travel internationally. This is consistent with the National Plan to transition Australia’s COVID-19 Response.
The proof can be downloaded digitally or in printed form. It is also compatible with COVID-19 travel apps such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Travel Pass.
Meanwhile, the Australian Government has announced that international travel restrictions will slowly start to ease from the beginning of November onwards for fully vaccinated Australians.
Some countries will require proof of vaccination from Australians while others will not.
The ministers said the Visible Digital Seal technology within the vaccination proof is world-leading. It is also as secure as an Australian passport as it is authenticated in the same way.
Australia’s Visible Digital Seal technology will be shared with other countries. This will build a curated library of technical documents that will assist interested countries to develop their own vaccination certificates.
“The international certificate meets the new global standard specified by the International Civil Aviation Organisation and conforms with World Health Organisation guidance,” the joint statement said.
“The launch of the international proof of vaccination is a key step towards safely reopening international borders and supporting Australia’s COVID-19 economic recovery.”
Fully vaccinated applicants can get the free international certificate by using their Medicare account through myGov, or the Medicare Express app.
