The Tax Institute appoints Clare Mazzetti as independent Chair

The Tax Institute has appointed Clare Mazzetti to its National Board, where she will serve as the inaugural independent Chair in overseeing the strategic governance of the Institute.

Ms Mazzetti’s appointment builds on The Tax Institute’s significant investment in its overall strategy and purpose of shaping the future of the tax profession and continuous improvement of the tax system for the benefit of all, through the advancement of knowledge, member support and advocacy. Her appointment will support the Institute as it grows and develops in years to come.

Ms Mazzetti will serve a three-year term in the role of independent Chair.

“The role of the independent Chair brings additional stability of leadership to National Council, allows for continual improvement to our governance, and maintains a strategic overview of our vision as an organisation. Importantly, it will help ensure that our members and their interests continue to be prioritised and protected in accordance with our objectives. The Chair will work closely with our councils and committees and our President and Vice-President to take our organisation from strength to strength,” The Tax Institute’s President, Jerome Tse, CTA said.

“I’m delighted to welcome Clare as the Institute’s inaugural Chair for a three-year term. Her wealth of experience, knowledge and enthusiasm will no doubt be an incredible asset for the Institute.”

“I’m so excited to be involved with The Tax Institute and to have the opportunity to assist in its growth and transformation through good governance,” Ms Mazzetti said.

“As Chair, I’ll be putting my deep subject matter expertise within the financial services industry and experience in other non-executive director roles to work in guiding the Institute’s strategic direction, for the benefit of all its members and the tax community.”

Ms Mazzetti has over 20 years financial services and consulting experience in roles spanning client services, advice, strategy, program management, M&A and risk management/governance.

She is currently the Non-Executive Director and Member of the Risk Committee with Uniting Financial Services, Non-Executive Director and Member of the Risk Committee with Qudos Bank and Member of the Board Investment and Development Committee with NORTH Foundation (fundraising partner of the Northern Sydney Local Health District).

She is completing a PhD in International Political Economy at University of Sydney and also holds Masters of International Relations from University of Sydney, Masters of Business Administration from University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Economics from University of Queensland.

Previously, she held a number of broader industry roles as both a Board director and Board advisor in Health, Agriculture and representative bodies including the Australian Shareholders Association, Agriculture Management Company and Australian Medical Association Foundation (QLD).

She was previously a Non-Executive Director and Member of the Audit & Risk Committee with Police Bank and a member of the Community Panel Committee for Sydney Airport.
