WA Government launches ServiceWA app to improve state safety

In an effort to improve WA’s safety amid the pandemic, the WA Government has launched the ServiceWA app – a free, convenient and secure mobile application that will greatly aid Western Australians.
The ServiceWA app allows Aussies the convenience of using one app to show proof of vaccination, check-in at businesses and venues with SafeWA and accesses their G2G Pass for interstate travel.
Aside from this, the app also provides access to important COVID-19 information such as how to prepare a household for COVID-19, where to get tested, where to get vaccinated and exposure location sites.
“The ServiceWA app will be an incredibly important and useful tool for Western Australians as we head into WA’s Safe Transition,” Premier Mark McGowan said.
“Having the ServiceWA app means you won’t be opening multiple apps or carrying other forms of identification to enter certain venues and events – it’s all in one place.”
In order to use the ServiceWA app, the user must set up or use a Digital Identity in order to create an account. This will prove who they are online while ensuring to the user that the app is safe, secure and not accessible by anyone else.
The app will make proof of vaccination requirements more robust because of features like the live clock timer, shimmering coat of arms and animated certificate tick as proof that the user’s COVID-19 digital certificate is authentic.
Compared to COVID-19 digital certificates stored in smartphone wallets or hardcopies, using the ServiceWA app will no longer require people to show additional identification to enter certain businesses and venues.
“ServiceWA will simplify the check-in process, making things fast and efficient for patrons and life easier for businesses and their employees,” Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said.
“With changes in our COVID response and vaccinations coming on board as another essential public health measure, the ServiceWA app is the best way forward in making our transition as convenient as possible and helping to keep our community safe.”
Setting up the ServiceWA app and Digital Identity will take time, so the WA Government advises the people to allocate at least 30 minutes to complete the process at home, where they have easy access to forms of identification like a passport, driver’s license or Medicare card.
This setup only needs to be completed once in order to ensure that the user’s information is verified and protected at all times when they use the app.
While Western Australians may still be able to use the SafeWA app to check-in at venues, it is expected that the app will become out-of-date.
Thus, it is recommended to download ServiceWA and begin using the app to check in on SafeWA.
“With proof of vaccination, SafeWA and G2G Pass all in the one place, the ServiceWA app will make it easier for people in WA to do the right thing to keep themselves and others safe,” Vaccine Commander Chris Dawson said.
“I urge all Western Australians get vaccinated to protect themselves and their loved ones from COVID-19. You can then use the ServiceWA app to show your proof of vaccination and check-in at businesses and venues as required.”
